Get to Know Melissa 40 Questions
By Melissa Lin
In this episode you get to learn all about me! We're going to be going through 40 different questions so you can get to know me more. I asked friends, my clients, and my audience to throw in tons of questions about me, relationships, and my favorite things.
I have two younger sisters. One is 25 and the other is about to turn 27. My sister Samantha, is down in Portland, Oregon, which is where I was born and raised. My sister Tessa, she's also down in Portland, Oregon and she is going to be turning 27 in April. They are both engineers as well. We actually all went to college together.
I worked in a lot of different places and it was actually pretty cool. I personally always worked on the manufacturing floor, so it was always very hands on in my job. Typically what I did was I was a process engineer or project manager depending on where I was and I was looking at everything in the production lines and helping to improve efficiencies, reducing costs, getting more product through as quickly as we can for our customers.
So that was kind of the engineering side, but it was really cool as I worked in a lot of cool spots. When I was in college, I interned at one of the largest wineries in the world down in California, at Gallo winery, which was so fun. I also worked at a chemical plant. I've worked at a paper mill. I have worked at a window company. Then I also worked at a glass manufacturing company. So I was in a lot of different areas, which was so cool.
So the first one is my favorite project management system. Asana. I would say the second, my second software is Thrivecart and this is my processor that we use to process things for like my courses and my programs.
The bachelor is definitely my favorite reality show.
I would say my favorite non-reality TV show is Schitt's Creek. I love it. It's on Netflix. If you haven't watched it, it is probably one of the best shows I've ever watched.
I absolutely love Asian food. It would be a hard pick between Chinese and Japanese. Oh, I love Thai too. But if I could only pick one, I would say in particular, probably dim sum.
Well I absolutely love water. Like if you see me and my stories or my line videos, I've always got my big, big water. I even upgraded. I think it's a 32 ounces like it's so, yeah. Yep. Classic 32 ounce blender bottle. I love it just because I forget to drink my water and so I need to have it with me everywhere I go.
Let's see. I'll kind of do each of the categories cause there's different categories when it comes to like liquor or wine. I would say my absolute favorite would be some type of Prosecco. I absolutely love Prosecco so much. Now when it comes to liquor, I would say probably a gin and tonic or Sprite and vodka, like super simple.
This is a really good question. You would think my answer would be to unpack my suitcase and it's not, that's probably the last thing I do. The first thing I do is I run to Pearl and I give her a ton of kisses and I hug her and I cuddle her. I miss her so much when I travel.
Well, I've been in New York city before and it's cool and different and exciting. However, I love Disney.
I really love Coco. Coco is probably been, I would say one of my favorite movies, newer, favorite movies. If we're talking about original Disney movies, I would say I would say Aladdin.
I used to go to Disneyland every summer growing up, not every summer, every spring break going out with my family. And this was probably my favorite vacation every year. We really didn't go anywhere else.
I would say it would be a pretty close tie between Japan and Bali. I absolutely loved Japan. My boyfriend and I went there in 2018 and it was just the most exciting and fun trips I think I've been on, we had such a blast and everyone over in Japan is just so kind and so caring and so proud to be from Japan.
I'd probably want to go swimming. Um, actually if I skated, figure skating would be very cool too. I would say swimming or figure skating.
I am the oldest in my family. However, I was also the Guinea pig. The oldest child is always the Guinea pig, so I definitely felt that I had it a little harder than my sisters because they were testing everything on me. So I had some pretty strict rules growing up in high school, like during the week curfew was 9:00 PM and then weekends was 10:00 PM so I felt like it was pretty strict.
I would say that my favorite part about this is helping my girls, helping my clients really move into their business, leaving their nine to five times, like anytime they have a win, it's a win for me. I'm so excited when they've got those wins and really get those big breakthroughs. And so that is what I love so much and just really giving and adding value to people's lives and really creating that impact. Just my favorite part and it's also pretty cool. Just be able to create my own schedule.
Grease, I love Grease. The original Grease the best.
I would definitely say Backstreet boys. And then I'm going to break the rules. Second favorite band I would say is Dan and Shay.
I would say teleportation. I would love to be able to teleport or be invisible.
Let's see. Fun fact. I was a big nerd growing up. I was a nerd.
Favorite holiday. I would say Christmas.
My least favorite would probably be the 4th of July, so growing up I was always afraid of fireworks. Fireworks kind of freaked me out a little bit, especially the big ones.
I wouldn’t say morning time. I am definitely more of a morning person, like I am more productive in my business in the morning. I love to podcast and get things done in the morning.
Yes, surprisingly I do and it's none of the sciency things or mathematical equations or formulas. However, it's more of the organization skills, the skills to like talk to people.
This is an easy one. My biggest pet peeve is when people chew gum with their mouth open. Like I can't stand that.
Maybe you're like this too. I need to have something on top of me, not like a person, but I need to have physically some kind of feeling on top of me to sleep. And a sheet isn't thick enough for me. I need to have an actual blanket.
I love grilled cheese.
My mentor said this and it's kind of our inner circle mantra of it's always this or better.
When I was really young, I wanted to be a magician. After that I wanted to be a doctor, but pretty quickly learned that I couldn't handle blood. So really I wanted to be a magician inside. I definitely could probably start to learn some, some magic tricks. I've learned one or two and I definitely want to get some magic kits and learn a few more.
So before going full time in my business, this is probably what anyone in a nine to five would say. Like Fridays were always my favorite time of the week or even Thursday because like the weekend was coming, but now that I am full time, my business I like, I forget what days, what days it is and it's like everyday kind of blends together.
I personally love to work at home in my pajamas. I have some awesome cat pajamas. I've got some flower pajamas or just yoga pants and a top. However, I am starting to lean more into dressing up a little bit more on my work day.
Depends on the time of day. So if it's earlier in the morning, maybe I'll just kind of sit on the couch and listen to part of a podcast. If it's kind of later in the evening I might take a book and read. I might also just catch up on a TV show.
I would love to start to learn a new language. I think that'd be awesome. When I was younger I spoke some Cantonese but have lost a lot of that since then.
I think it was about first grade. I remember it was like right after Christmas break and we were asked to journal. And my exciting thing was I saw Santa for the first time, like in my house and I started to write about it and we share the stories. And that day so many people came up to me and told me like Santa is not real. So I found out at school from people in class that Santa isn't real in the first grade. So heartbroken
Personally, I would rather stay in on a Friday night. I am definitely more of a homebody. I love to stay in, be cuddled up, have a glass of wine. I have a book fire fireplace, just kinda cuddle up.
I'm going to go Superman all because of Henry. But Bevin's pretty cool too.
So my top two love languages are words of affirmation and then also quality time
I have to, like, picture myself putting a shirt on. I want to say left.
Lately I love arcades. A lot of Ryan and my date nights we'll go to like an arcade.
I wouldn't say that there's one big challenge that I've had just because there's been so many different challenges throughout the growth of my business. So as you start to grow in your business, you're going to see this too. You are going to face different challenges.
Right now I'm working about 20 hours a week and it will depend on how many days I want to work that week. It'll depend on my coaching schedule because I coach on certain days. Typically it comes to about four hours, four to five hours a day. I might only work like an hour or two on Fridays and Fridays are usually like my later days when I don't work much on the weekends.
40 questions later and I've officially shared new things about me with you. Hopefully there's something that you learned about me that you didn't know.Definitely we'll be doing more of things behind the scenes of my business, behind the scenes in my life so that you can see more and more of that.
