In This Episode You’ll Hear:
There is so much that I want to teach you that will help you move forward in your business, so I am so excited about today’s episode. I am going to walk you through some of those top mistakes that online fitness coaches make. (AKA the top mistakes I made myself when I start my fitness coaching business when I started back in 2014!)
Some of you could even be making them right now, and that’s okay, that is why I am making this episode right now for all of us. I know back then when I was first starting I really wish I had someone in my corner who had already done it and already successful at building a business in the online fitness space. I would have loved to hear what their struggles and mistakes were, I didn’t have that back then and I certainly did not know that was available but it does now, so that’s why I created this for Y O U!
Now like I said, I’ve made all the mistakes, my clients have made these mistakes and some of your are probably making them and that is okay! The first thing you need to do is raise your hand and say it is okay and look at the people in your life that you are taking advice and listen.
When I was making these mistakes, I was making about $500 months, IF THAT. And if these are ones that you are making, I don’t want you to be making them anymore because these are things that really held me back from scaling in my business.
So let’s dive in!
1. Focusing way to much on the logistics.
This is one of the biggest mistakes online coaches make is that they focus way too much on the logistics. (Raising my hand right now too lol) I have done this in the past and I remember when I was at my 9-5 in the morning, I remember so vividly, I spent so much time building my business in my cubicle. But I focus so much on the logistics, that I probably spent 50-60 hours building my website and it was probably the most basic site you could have ever imagined and it had nothing to do about my potential clients. I’m talking spending so much time on my website, logo, certification that I thought mattered so much back then and I thought that if I had all of these beautiful things, I would seem credible and be taken more seriously. So, I had this website that made no difference in how I was gaining sales and if anything it made me obsess more over why I wasn’t getting sales! My business started booming after I stopped focusing on this and I made my first $5k month once I shut my website down.
Instead, we need to focus on everything outside of us. Who are you helping, who are serving, what is your gift? What is the problem you can help people with?
Really honing in on that niche & who is your ideal client?
These are the things you want to focus on first.
Your business evolves so much that first 6 months to a year that you will be changing so much anyway, so don’t focus all of your energy on making everything look pretty.
2. Trying to cater to everybody.
So, I am a recovering people pleaser, I’ve always been such a “yes” girl growing up and what ended up happening when I started coaching I was trying to cater to everyone. In my bio, I told people that I help people eat sustainably and I help people lose weight. That really sounds like I’m catering to everybody right? Like what does eating sustainably even mean? Like think about that for a second….. It could mean so many different things, which is why we really need to niche down and figure out who are you helping. Whose problem are you solving? And once you have that, talk to them, speak to them, talk about the struggles you went through, and be as specific as you can. The more specific you can be, the more clearer you will be seen and your niche will find you. So be very very clear about who you are speaking to.
hot tip: Create a clear bio by saying, “I help (this person) create (this type of result) by taking (this type of action).”
Send me a message if you need help clearing this up, I would love to hear what you have to say and we can chat and tweak it together, I would love that!
3. Focusing on closing sales.
Instead of asking myself how can I serve? how can I impact? how can I bring value? So many of us go into our day thinking “I need this client.” We are allowing our emotions to come into play when you’re going into conversations and we don’t want that. Instead we want to be thinking, How can I serve this person? How can I help this person? How can I impact this person?
You can do this by starting to bring value every single day.
I started a free facebook group, and even when I transferred to business coaching, I had a free facebook group. And when I started focusing on bringing value, that is when I started impacting, that’s when i had my first successful month. I had ideal clients, under 100 people in the group, most were my ideal clients, but I really focused on serving them. In the beginning when I didn’t have many people in the group, I was getting into each of the member’s DM’s and curious about how I could help them with their struggles, it had nothing to do with sales and I didn’t ask them to buy anything, but solely how I could help them and got to know them. That is when I made my first $5k and $10k month.
Try not to let your emotions come into sales, focus on serving other and adding value and impacting the world. Because when you start to focus on those things, success will find you, I can guarantee it. Lead with value and that’s when your audience will grow organically.
4. People feel that the number of followers means more income.
That is N O T true. I made my first $5k month from my facebook group of less than 100 people. Think about that for a minute, now I’ve had coaches come to me when they’ve had 30-40k followers and they’re making barely a few thousand dollars a year. Followers does not mean income. If you don’t know how to message yourself, clearly speak to your niche, speak in your content, how to sell, all of these things have a huge impact on that. Yes it may mean more people have the potential to see more of your stuff but it does not mean the guarantee the amount of cash flow or great fit for you. So, as you start to focus on adding value, all of that will come full circle. The amount of followers has nothing to do with the amount of income you make.
5. Not being consistent.
Not being consistent on stories, posting, selling, all of these things, if you are not consistent, it is going to make running your business very very hard for you. So, let’s say you post on instagram 2 times a week, there are 5 days where you are missing out on talking to a potential perfect client for you. Let’s say you are talking about your coaching program every two weeks, I can guarantee people don’t know about it, because not everybody sees every story you post, the way the algorithm works. Each day that you show up is another opportunity for the perfect client to walk into your life. There are people out there begging to give you money, and they are not going to find you if you are not consistent. Being consistent in your business will help you start to move that needle.
