My Top 5 Business & Life Lessons

By: Melissa Lin

Welcome back to another episode of The Fierce business babe, podcast. Today is also some big things of course, in business and personal life over the last year. And again, thank you so much for all the love the support, in sharing, of the podcast and since today is also my birthday I figured I would do something a little special today as well. We do have our birthday sales going on right now, and if you listen to last week's episode, you know, all about that, right? If you’re applying and roll into the academy, you’ll see bonuses, so make sure to apply. If you've been thinking about it, now is definitely the time to do so. This is our extra weeks inside the program and then also an entire week of voxer access with me, the private texting and voice messages to me anytime. And then if you are beyond that level, if you are more established in your business and want to scale beyond that, in your business, send me a message because we do have some Secret Sales.

The reflection

I wanted to reflect on the last year in my life. It’s interesting to see the evolution of my business over the years. It looks like new team members and support roles in the team last year. I also hired my more recent, online business manager. If you're inside of, or if you thought about my fiercely scale Mastermind my highest-level Mastermind, help you scale to the multiple six figures business, you will definitely get to meet her. I would not be where I am today without my team. And it's so fun and exciting because the team will be getting even bigger and bigger. And even in the last year, we took two weeks to also create a few new little mini-course bundles. And there's more coming this year. We also brought out some other courses that we had created a few years ago. Did a flash sale to run out of the vaults and have them available for a few days. Everything is expanding. It’s so cool.

One of the big things I've learned over the years is that it's not fun to get to a level in your business and cannot support that level. Because then you go into firefighting mode and that is just not fun and I can really start to break a lot of things in your business. And so I do my best to always be prepping my clients for the next alarm at 6 figure business. Right now, you want to start to plan the backend for multiple six figures that you can support. I need that number of clients. Coming in the onboarding, the off-boarding, just all of the customer service coming in for that level of businesses. As you continue to grow, the other tasks that are going to be coming into different challenges, they'll be coming in. You just want to do your best, to prep for that next level. Because a few years ago, I had some firefighting going on, but again that's a big reason why you have someone in your corner who has been through that. So they can help you get that stuff prepped and can transform behind the scenes of your business to be ready for the next level which we do with our clients.

Saving Social Content

One of the bigger things I would stay in business, before we switch over to personal life, one the biggest things is I lost Instagram account earlier this year. So that happens, but we've been growing quickly. And, you know, we have all of our content saved. We can start really pushing out content, more content, adding value, and showing up. You just never know what's going to happen in social media’s never the same. It's always shaping and shifting and it will look different 3 months from now, six months from now, and so. We just want to be able to adapt and pivot when needed. As an entrepreneur, that is one of the things you’ll need to do is shift and adapt to change. Like your messaging in your business may need to shift, it’s not like you can create one thing and that’s it. Things will need to be tweaked at some point. So just being open to adapting to whatever is going on.

I lost my Instagram account but had all of our content saved and also I had everything on our email list. So, we were able to get going again quickly. Be focusing on your email list and have all your content saved. I give all my clients those templates and ensure they are saving it outside of social media because you are spending so much of your energy on creating this content and these materials and these are true assets in your business. So you want to make sure you're protecting and saving them.

Personal Reflections

Let's go into some personal life reflections over the last year. Lots of exciting things going on. The biggest thing has been the house. Ryan, my partner, and I have been building our own home. We restarted our entire building permit process, at the very beginning of January 2021, On July 2021, we got all our permits and we had just started to excavate barely even starting to excavate and getting our first, inspection with our erosion control and things like that. And just starting to get the land that we purchased ready for construction. We didn't end up actually, starting until around Thanksgiving, early December. So it took a little bit of time where there is definitely a lot of backup with materials and labor and things like that. You’ve got to be open to pivoting. And trusting that it is all going to come together and it has! We just poured concrete and are getting ready to move in at the end of July.

Before the house really started moving along. I went over to Scotland did some traveling over there. I did some skiing all throughout the state, went over to Big Sky, went over to Hawaii and I'll be going there again very soon. So lots of travel as well which has been super, super exciting. But I'm still here in Seattle, Washington.

That's just a quick reflection on kind of, what's happening behind the scenes, with business. And then also, with my personal life in the past, year, the 31st year,

Keep Going

The key is to keep going regardless of what's going on with your business, regardless, of whatever may be happening in life, if you are facing a huge challenge right now. And you haven't faced before keep going. Unless it's like your business just isn't aligned anymore. Then of course, like burn it to the ground if that's what you really want to do. However, if something feels hard right now. Keep going because you will continue to face new challenges. I promise you, as your business continues to grow. You will face new challenges. When we first started to hit six figures we faced challenges. You will continue to face new challenges and also you can handle any of them that come your way just keep going to give it another six months and the things that feel hard today will feel so much easier 6 months from now.

It's kind of giggle at what happened right at the moment that I lost my Instagram account like yes I had lots of feelings in the moment that it happened, definitely felt hard. However, I have also lost other accounts in the past and so I had some experience with that, I faced it before and now I look back and I learned so much. It's just part of social media. You don't know what's going to happen, but also you can prep for it. And if it were to happen again tomorrow, you’d know what to do.

And again, just keep going giving another 6 months, keep going, especially if you're just getting started. It can be scary. There are so many more people getting online that need you and your guidance.

Do what scares you

This is one of my favorites. I'm going to stay in our comfort zone, right? Nothing new is happening. If you want to create a life, you haven't lived. You get to do things you've never done before. That means, stepping out of your comfort zone. It means challenging yourself. It means you showing up on social media, maybe going live for the first time, and you posting the post that you're scared to post. And it means you getting out there and slide into someone's DMS and asking for the sale. Keep going. That is where the magic happens and I did not get to where I am today without stepping out of my comfort zone without going after what really scares me and I guarantee that those who are super successful would say the same

This is about you creating that impact and helping others. And it's so much bigger than just us. And I will take keep that in mind as well as this is about the impact you're here to create. And so many need you and your guidance, and your gifts, and your mentorship and your help.

Creating space.

What I mean by this is, that there are so many things out there, that people are telling you to do, either in business like the right thing to do, the right strategy, or the right things to do in your personal life. For so many years, we heard that the only way to be successful is to wake up at 4 a.m. every day and get your workout in first thing in the morning and then make sure you have a morning routine. But you can decide for yourself what's important to you and makes you feel good and another way to make up your own rules. It feels aligned to me that my morning routine is not an hour or two long. I don't sit there and journal for an hour. It's not my thing. I like to sit and journal for typically like 10 minutes or so and then I've got a few other things. Build your business in a way that feels good to you. There's no one right way or one wrong way to do it. There are no rules. You can build a very successful, 7-figure business, multiple 7-figure business courses, you can do the same with group coaching programs, you can do the same but digital downloads like there is no one, right answer. It's about going after it was important to you and creating the business that is going to support the lifestyle that you want.

You're allowed to give yourself space to go, enjoy life and do things that you want to do. While building your business. And there's no rule that says, you need to hustle your first five years and take no breaks and not enjoy your life. And I deeply believe that you can have it all, that you can't do both. You can grow your business. You need to work a little bit more, the beginning, of course, but you could take days off, you get to take breaks and social media, you get to do the things that are going to support you in the long run because this is also about the longing of your business. Not go, go, go. Because there's always going to be more to do. If I wanted to, I could spend 20 hours a day and my business, there's always more to do.

Set boundaries

Let's see how many times you go in and check your emails throughout the day. Stick to your boundaries even if you see an email to come in or maybe a client voxer come in after you shut your laptop off, let's say you just stop with the corner of your eye like a six-year boundary. You can get back to it the next day or if it's a Friday at 5 like you can still get back to them, stick to your boundaries, they will be a game-changer for you and your business and if you are feeling like maybe close to burn out or maybe a lack of breathing in your business, then I would really try them out and take a look at what your boundaries look like in your business.

Do you have your notifications on all of the time, constantly going into your platforms? Because you saw something pop up? What do you have certain days that you do different things? We really take a look at some of those boundaries that you've got and then the last thing I want to share with you today and I know there are so many I can share, it was hard to pick just speed in up our business in a season where we're slowing down behind the scenes that we can prep for that next week and three times for x amount of students inside of those programs and sell.

Slow down

Sometimes you need to slow down to speed up and this is your permission slip that it's totally okay. Do you need to slow down a little bit and put some things together? Whether it's systems in the back end or higher support in order to speed up for training the team members. You're going to go to get to where you want to go, and it's going to be so much easier if you slow down. Give your business, the support that it needs in order to really speed things up.

I'm always going to be your biggest cheerleader. So you taking time out of your day to hang with me. Truly means the world to me.
