Your Summer 2022 Sales Mindset
By: Melissa Lin
Welcome back to another episode of The Fierce Business Babe Podcast. I am so excited for today’s episode which is all about sales mindset. I love sales. If you’ve ever worked with me you know how much I love to chat about sales and sales mindset because it's a huge piece of your business. Without sales we really don't really have a business, we have more of a hobby. There are so many different ways to sell. We always want to make sure that you feel good about selling and are selling in a way that feels good to you, there are so many different ways to do so. You can hop on sales calls, you can sell in your Instagram stories, email, there are so many different ways. Years ago I started with sales calls and now we've done lots of transitioning and pivoting in how we like to sell. I don't do sales calls anymore. I haven't done a sales call in over three years now and we continue to sell and sign clients weekly. There is not one right way or wrong way to sell. I'm so excited to get into that today with you as we chat about all things sales. Today's episode is all about shifting your sales mindset, some summer sale trends that I see, how to shift your summer sales in your business, and so much more.
Shifting Your Sales Mindset
The first thing I want to get into is how we can start to shift your sales mindset. Mindset is not a one-and-done deal, it is something that we get to continue working on. We cannot become better at sales until we start to shift our sales mindset and some of our beliefs around sales and money. The reason is that those stories and beliefs that we have around sales directly affect how good you are at selling. It affects how your launches are going to go, how much you really lean into your launch, and how often you're actually following up with leads who’ve shown interest. For example, if you believe that promoting is bad, you will subconsciously avoid doing it. You will start to lean away from your launch and avoid handling objections. You'll start to procrastinate and you won’t be selling much if you believe promoting is bad. You'll avoid showing up on Instagram stories during your launch. You’ll avoid sending out emails to your list during your launch because maybe you feel that sending emails is icky and that nobody will want to buy so they’ll just unsubscribe from your list. Maybe you'll start talking about your program less and less. If you believe that promoting or selling his bad, it directly affects everything else. It affects how sales are going to be in your business and how you show up in your business. These stories and beliefs are given to us by other people and things that we've learned over the years. They are not facts or rules that are set in stone. These can shift and alternate. There are new beliefs that you can start to bring into your business. Selling can be fun. Selling can be easy. Selling gets to feel good to you.
I want to share some of my favorite sales mantras that I share with my clients all of the time. You can start to use these today and really start to shift some of your sales in your business. Mindset first, then strategy. Strategy will not work if your sales mindset is not there. Strategy will not work unless you feel good about sales and feel good about what you're offering. One of my favorite mantras is “selling is serving.” Selling is serving, selling is helping. When you get out and share your offer to the world, you're sharing how people can get to the solution they're looking for. You have the solution, so you selling is giving them the opportunity to connect with you and really get that transformation they’re looking for. You have that solution, you created it, so we get to get it out there. People cannot work with you or buy from you if they don't know about your offer. Selling is serving, selling is helping. Promoting is an amazing thing. I know, and this is one of my huge mantras, when I promote I can change lives. When I promote and sell I can create a bigger impact. The next one I want to share with you is “money is an infinite resource.” I know for so many, and I used to feel this way as well, we sometimes feel like money isn't infinite. We can feel that we're taking money away from somebody when we sign on a new client, and that's not the case. Money is an infinite resource. Anyone can make more money. Money is always circulating around us. You're also not taking anything without giving. You're giving a life-changing service. You’re not stealing from somebody, it's an exchange. Those are some new mantras and stories and I want you to really start to lean into them. You can create some of your own and use mine as inspiration so you can start feeling good about selling.
When you shift your mindset around sales you will start showing up more in your launch; your audience will feel your excitement and you will see more sales come through the door for your business. Selling is truly serving. You'll see yourself handling more objections. If you have an objection and you put your hands up without knowing what the actual objection is, then there's some kind of sales mindset shift we get to make. We don't actually know what the objection is. We don't know what's holding that person back, and a huge thing that we get to do as coaches and service providers is helping guide them through that. What is the actual block holding them back? Regardless of if it ends up being a yes or no down the road, you do want to figure out what the block is because they may not even see it yet. You want to help them see that. If you see yourself not following up, not hopping into your lead tracker, or avoiding getting into those things, I want you to take a look at your sales mindset and see what the gap could potentially be. Again, selling is serving, selling is helping and we get to have so much fun with it.
Summer Sales Trends
The next thing I want to talk about is some of the summer sales trends that I see. I always see the same trends year after year, especially in the summertime. What I'm seeing this summer already is people leaning away from selling in their businesses because they don't believe that people buy in the summer. I see lots of coaches and service providers not selling on social media right now because they want to enjoy vacation and travel. I see so many people leaning away from selling because maybe they're burnt out from selling the first half of the year, which I've been there before in the past too. What I believe is that you really can have it all. People do buy in the summertime, people are buying all year-round. There's never a time where people are not buying things. Something that I deeply believe is you can enjoy a vacation and travel and make sales in your business. I actually have an entire podcast episode about a week earlier this year where I was on vacation and we had a $45,000 week in my business. You can definitely do the same.
Something that's really supported me and my business is that we've got such strong foundations and strong sales systems to support my business, regardless of if I'm in it 24/7 or not. For example, right now is a very busy season for me in my personal life. We just built a brand new home and now we're moving and transitioning. It is a very busy season for me and we're still signing clients and supporting clients. The business is still growing even though I'm not in my business 24/7. You can truly do it all. There are a lot of little things you can do to help streamline some of that to make it easier for you, and that's something I want you to think about.
I do want you to know that people are buying in the summer. We’re signing clients weekly into our programs. People are buying. You get to lean into selling and actually sell and show up if you want to sell more in your business and sign more clients. There's definitely going to be some business owners who don't want to. Maybe they take the entire month off and don't sell, but that feels good to them. That gives them time to be off of social media for an entire month if that's what they want. People have different seasons in business and that is okay, as long as that's what they're wanting and looking for. So again, there's no right way to run your business or wrong way to run your business. However, if you're wanting more sales then we get to actually sell, especially in the summertime. Make sure that you're working through your mindset and that you're actually selling and leaning into your launch.
Some believe that you need to be on social media all day everyday to self, and again, that’s not the case. I spend less than an hour on social media every day and we're still selling every day, just in various forms. Don't fall into that trap of leaning away from your business or selling because you're fearful that no one's going to buy because everyone else is busy with vacations and things like that. You’re making the assumption and you're already making that decision for them, which really we can't do. That's not fair. The only thing that you can control is how you show up on some media and how much do you sell., I promise you, there are people out there right now waiting for you. There are 8 billion people in this world. There are people out there who are looking for your help and your guidance. However, if you're not selling, they don't know about you. They don't know about your offer. I've got lots of tips and tricks on how to handle objections and follow up with leads and things like that in different podcast episodes and also over on my social media. If that's something that you're struggling with as well or want to work on a little bit more, send me a message over on Instagram and I can send you some of the podcast episodes and some of the mini trainings that we've done with this as well.
Shifting Your Summer Sales
Let's get into how to shift your summer sales in your business. I think I've already said this a few times now, but I want to say it again because we get to hear things over and over, start selling more often. If you have not sold in your business today, this is to be your challenge. Once you finish listening to this podcast episode, go and sell. Take five minutes and do some type of sales activity. This could be hopping onto your Instagram stories and sharing the ways to work with you. It could be hopping into your lead tracker and following up with three leads. Maybe it's you sending an email. Maybe it's you just hopping into your DMs and catching up. Maybe it’s you sharing your freebie that is part of your funnel. Do some type of sales activity. You get to do something everyday. There are dozens and dozens of sales activities you get to do in your business. Lead generation and sales activities are the biggest things you can do right now in your business to make some quick cash flow and create that impact. There are lots of different things that I gave you right there, so go do one of them and have fun with it.
I'll share a quick example of how this can affect your business with you before we move forward. One of my clients, Megan, realized that she hadn't really been selling as often as she thought she was. We’re on social media all throughout the week, so sometimes we feel like we're selling more than we really are. She realized she had only been selling about once a week in her business. She was hopping on her Instagram stories about once a week and was barely touching on her program and offer, she was kind of walking around her program. Once she saw that, she started making some of those shifts with a few sales activities for 10 to 15 minutes. One week she followed up with some leads and she signed three new clients, mostly from following up and talking about her offer. I want to say it was roughly $7,000 for her in sales with those three new clients. It’s all about shifting more into sales.
How can you sell more in your business while having fun with it? You get to have fun with it. I absolutely love selling in my business. I get so excited when I get to help somebody. I get so excited when I get to help them move into their next level so they can create their impact and create the freedom in their lives that they're looking for through entrepreneurship. We get to have fun with it. Maybe it's a task that you have in your Asana. I use Asana in my business and I love when I get to check things off. You get the confetti and a celebration when you check all of your things off for the day, it's so fun and so rewarding. That's my way to have fun with it. My team and I have our sales activities every day and we check them off. Find a way to have fun with it, whatever that looks like for you. Find a way to make things easier. How can you make things easier for you while you're actually doing sales activities? Find a way to make it easier to stay consistent. Maybe it's something that you need to add into your morning routine. Maybe it's something that you just do at the same time every day. Find a way to make it easier for you to stay consistent. I would not recommend pushing it off till the very end of the day. I see a lot of coaches do that and then not end up selling. They keep pushing it and pushing it and pushing it. I would do it earlier in the day, maybe around lunchtime or right after breakfast or your morning routine. Find a way to make it easier.
If there's anything that feels icky around sales or selling or following up, anything along those lines, I've got tons and tons of resources for you to support you. This is exactly what I support my clients with as well. I shared about my client Megan who is just crushing it in sales because she decided to lean in. It’s all about you deciding to lean in. If you're fearful about what others are going to think of you if you sell more in your business or that you're going to lose followers, then we're letting those stories get into our head. There are so many out there that need you. Yes, you're going to be hear no. We hear no still, that's normal for business. You're not going to get every single yes, however they are yeses out there. Keep going, keep selling. People need your guidance and need to know about your offer, so have fun with it. We've talked all about shifting your sales mindset, summer sales trends, how to shift your summer sales in your business, and so much more.
