Your 2021 Daily Business Activities

By: Melissa Lin

Can we all give 2021 a big loving, welcome and hello? I know so many of us have been looking forward to a new year and here we are. Happy January, 2021, my fierce business babes. New year, new quarter, new adventures. Here we go! Now, so many new entrepreneurs love to dive right into their business and very quickly what tends to happen is they get overwhelmed with the information getting thrown their way. Don't blame them for information overload these days with Google and a whole of the resources available.

So today I want to break down some of the more important things to always have on your daily to-do list for your business. Now, Some of these things could also translate to weekly items. It really just depends on your goals and your business at this moment. So here we are. Walking into 2021 and we're just ready to crush it, right? Like 2021 is here and I can't wait as you're probably feeling too right now, after 2020, what a year it was. Something I just want to dive into. I'm going to dive right on in, you know how I'd like to do this. I like to dive right into the juicy stuff.

Taking Care Of Your Clients and Your Team

Something that is very important to myself, to my business, it's definitely a big part of our values, is taking care of our clients and checking in with our team. That is a non-negotiable and I feel this really should be a non-negotiable for any business. This is something that happens every single day in our business. I check in with all of my clients and all of my programs and support them throughout the week. And there's a lot of different ways that you can do this, to track this, to make sure that you're doing those things. We're all different. We all need different tools. We personally use Asana for most of our tasks and we even have this non-negotiable of checking with our clients throughout the day. We actually have that added into Asana as part of our daily recurring tasks.

So something I'd recommend right off the bat would be hopping into some type of project management system. We use Asana. There are definitely others out there. You could look into Trello, Click Up, Monday. Many of them have free versions you can use. I've used them all. Asana was definitely my favorite. I'm definitely that type of person where I like to check out all the different platforms and see, which one I like first before committing. So Asana is definitely the one for us. And then again, many of them have free versions you can use, or you can even create your own tracking register in an Excel sheet or a Google sheet. This is something that we do with our clients, and we actually provide our clients a template for them to utilize to track their business activities throughout the day and throughout the week as well, to just make sure that they are staying on track with the goals that they're wanting to achieve.

The Difference Between Busy and Productive

I want to get into some pretty important things today or really just putting our focus where we want to grow. We get to be so intentional with how we're growing our business and the things that we're spending our time on. And I think that after 2020, that was definitely a big lesson a lot of us learned. So, before we really dive into this, I do want to make a quick mention that many of us think that to be super busy at work, it means we're being very effective. We feel that if we fill our business day or to do list from top to bottom, that it means we're going to be moving the needle forward. And that isn't always the case. To be super busy at work doesn't necessarily mean that we're being very effective in that we are having a productive day. This is actually a general misconception. To be busy doesn't necessarily mean you're effective and to be effective doesn't mean to work all day long in non-stop mode.

For example, I look back to any of my nine to five days, my engineering days, before I was an engineer, we were in our nine to fives and I can tell you that I was not working all eight hours straight. I was not sitting there working, go, go, go for eight hours straight. You're going to burn out. It's just not very effective. Being busy doesn't mean I'm effective. I know I used to go and find things to fill my day, to fill my eight hours before I could go home. I would spend a little extra time on some emails, create some new reports, and all of these different things to fill the day. What else was I going to do? Filling the day, I felt I was being more effective and productive and I really wasn't. I know so many of you can probably relate to that in your nine to five.

Focusing On The Right Things

Now, business owners on social media, for example, we're focusing on so many different things. We're focusing on content creation. We're focusing on posting every day, making our website, adding graphics, Instagram stories, all of the things. Literally, how many tasks do we have every day? A lot of us aren't spending much time actually doing the things that need to move the needle forward. So for example, sales activities, which at the end of the day, is where we get to spend our time. Especially if you're in the beginning stages of your business. If you've created your foundations, you get to be focusing on sales activities because this is going to help you move the needle forward. If you get more sales, you can start to hire some team members. If you get more sales, you can start to expand your business. That’s definitely a big, big, big activity that I'm going to definitely recommend. I'm going to talk more about that and get more into that once we get into the things to be focusing on throughout the day and throughout the week as well.

We get to choose a few things to add to your priority list. What you focus on grows, what you focus on expands. This is something that I truly believe, because I know if I'm seeing a number, let's say, for example, I want to grow my email list. If I'm looking at that number day after day after day after day, and it's not growing. I'm going to go, ding, ding, ding. Okay. I've got to do something. I've got to do something to move the needle forward. Other examples for goals, different things to be focusing on, if your goal is to increase your income in 2021, you could focus on selling and getting in front of more people. If your goal is creating more time in your business. Well, you get to start hiring some team members and start to delegate.

Adding More Value

I want to get into some of the things that you can start to actually add to your list. A lot of it's going to be dependent on what your goals are. So really ask yourself, what is it that I want more of? Anytime I'm not sure what my priority should be or my focus in my business should be. I can reach out to my mentor and I ask myself, what do I want more of? Then what do I need to do to get more of that? So ask yourself that. Now most of the time at the end of the day, something that's going to help you get more of what you want. This is something I believe to be true because it's something that I just truly, truly, truly believe in, is adding value. And what we get to do is add value every single day on our platforms, especially if you're in the coaching space or service-based area. If you've got a business that is in any of those two areas, you get to be adding massive amounts of value.

So here's some examples for ways that we add value. How do we add value? With this new podcast episode, for example, every single week, we also release fierce business Q and A's. We also create new captions every single week. We do mini trainings. We go live in our free Facebook group. We repurpose old trainings. We share our freebies. We host free workshops and webinars and things like that. Value is key when it comes to helping more people and moving the needle forward. At the end of the day, selling is not about getting, it's about giving.

As a salesperson, your main job, you're a business owner, and in the beginning stages, unless you have a sales team for you, you are also the sales person and your main job is to create value. So again, I create value every single day on all of my platforms. I don't want you to look at your tasks as exchanging hours for dollars. Look at it as creating value that people can use, value that could help move them in the direction of changing their lives. I definitely gave some examples for what this could look like. I have a few podcasts episodes that actually go deep into how to create a lead magnet, a freebie that's going to convert for you and just be beneficial for your audience.

Again, value can be anything from an educational posts, motivational posts, a free workout, a meal guide, journal prompts, your top five tips for XYZ. Anything that gives value and helps your audience, your potential clients. If your goal is to make a sale. Okay, cool. We all get to make sales, but if that's what your goal is, if that's what you're solely focused on, you're dependent on the buying decisions of others. But if your goal is to create value, you're not dependent on others. You're only dependent on yourself. And so the goal is not necessarily to be successful. The goal, and this is what I love teaching my clients. It's really, it's something I believe to be true. The goal is to be valuable because once you're valuable, instead of you chasing success, it will attract itself to you naturally. Start to add value, show up every single day. The reason that this is so important is, number one, value helps show your ideal clients the value you can bring. I have had people watch my free Facebook training series and signed double the number of clients because of it. From my free training series! I've had some people sign their first high ticket clients from my free training series.

Your ideal clients want to see that you can actually help them. So you get to add value every single day. It also gives them a little glimpse into what it could be like working with you. They want a little taste of this before they commit to work with you. You would never go and buy a car without giving it a test drive. Maybe, who knows, I mean, with how COVID is, COVID and all of the things, maybe not, but pre COVID, right? You would not go buy a car without giving it a test drive. You wouldn't go buy a house without seeing the pictures of it first. Going to see the house in person, if you're able to do so as well. So our value and our businesses, it does the same exact thing. So, so, so important.

So far we've covered nonnegotiable of checking in with your clients, supporting your clients, and checking with your team. I'm also gonna add in up there with that non-negotiable that I didn't really mention earlier, but also checking in with yourself, making sure you're giving yourself time for your morning routine. Whatever it is that you need to fill your cups, so that you can also fill other people's.

Selling Every Day

The next thing that we get to get into is if you are a business, you get to sell every single day. Supporting your clients, supporting your teams, supporting yourself, adding value, and then selling every single day. Does it mean that you need to be the person always selling for you? Not necessarily. There are so many different ways already, dozens and dozens of ways to sell. You can do so many different sales activities throughout the week where you're not the one doing it every single day. It's not like you need to get on Instagram stories every day and say, “Hey, I'm a coach, hey I’m a service provider, come work with me, come buy my program.” There are so many other ways to sell. But it's something that we get to do every single day. If you feel icky or gross after me saying the word selling or the thought of selling more than once per month, then I would highly recommend spending some time working on your sales mindset.

In order to grow, in order for you to help more people, in order for your business to grow, in order for your business to make more money, you must sell. At the end of the day, you're a business and you get to sell. You wouldn't walk into a grocery store and expect them to not be selling or have signs advertising their products. This is one of the hardest for most people to do because people are so fearful of it. I see a lot of entrepreneurs tip toe around selling and you get to go all in. I love teaching my clients how to sell from the heart and just from a service base as well. Selling doesn't technically mean that you have to hop on Instagram stories every single day and say, “Hey, I'm a coach. I'm a service provider. Come work with me.” You can sell in so many other ways, especially on social media.

Selling On Social Media

What I love about social media and that technology that we have is there are so many different ways that you can sell. If you're in launch mode, then you definitely should be talking about your offer and your stories, almost if not every single day. What you do get to do is also sell in other ways. Call to actions in your posts. You talking about your past clients and your Instagram stories, you showing behind the scenes of your new offer that you're creating. Talking about a wait list that you have. Mentioning behind the scenes of your new clients coming in. I can guarantee that most people will have no idea you have an offer if you're not talking about it. Because not everybody sees every story, not everybody sees every post, and not everybody sees every live. You get to be talking about it more. It takes anywhere from on average, seven to ten touch points before someone moves from a lead to a paying client, minimum. We get to be talking about our offers and at the end of the day, ladies, selling is serving. Selling is serving. If you truly, truly want to help more people, you get to sell, you get to share your offer, you get to share your gift with the world. You can't help people if they don't know about it. They can't come into your programs if they don't know about your programs. So we get to sell. Again, check out some of my past podcast episodes if you're looking for a sales mindset. If you're not sure which one, feel free to DM me, and I can pinpoint a certain one or two to you. So, we get to be selling. All the time. Something that I also believe to be true is we are actually being selfish by not selling. We're doing a disservice to the world if we are not selling. We get to go out and sell.

Building Relationships

The next thing that I really want you to add into your daily business activities or at least weekly, doing this a few times a week, is building relationships. What I mean by this, it's not just new relationships. It's relationships with new leads, relationships with old leads, relationships with your current audience. We get to really nurture the ones that already adore you by reaching out to them, ask them how you can support them better. Hop on free training calls to teach them content, offer discovery calls, give them value, give them something that can aid them and help them. Today, I want to challenge you, go in, send out five messages to people who are consistently the first few to watch your Instagram stories, go and thank them for being part of your community. Ask how you can support them today. Create relationships for you to create a trust factor. You get to create some relationships in your audience. They are truly going to appreciate this and continue to be a loving community member of yours. They're going to be the ones who at happy hour or maybe post COVID with their girlfriends saying, “Oh my goodness. Have you seen this person, Melissa, she's always so helpful. Always giving the best stuff out. You need to go check her out, go follow her stuff. Here's her handle. Here's her podcast, here’s her program.” So you see how your community will continue to grow if you spend a little bit of time just nurturing your current community and also expanding outwards as well.

I'm always going to be expanding my network and always wanting to grow my community just because I want to help as many people on this planet that I can, and for me to do that, I get to get in front of more people and that's going to help us. That's actually going to take us right into the next one that I want to chat about. But before I do, I want to make a quick note of, just don't forget about your current leads and your lead tracker. Something that I see a lot of clients doing, a lot of people in my audience do, is they forget about their leads on their lead tracker. They get overwhelmed with all of the different things to do with their businesses, the tasks every day and they forget about one of the most important things. Lead generation is one of the biggest money-making activities you can do in your business. The fortune is always in the follow-up. Please, please, please continue to check in with your leads on your lead tracker. Note when you want to follow up with them so you don't forget. That's something else I want to add in. You're going to go and message five people who are watching your Instagram stories today. Also, go and reach out to five people in your lead tracker that you haven't talked to in a while. Go and just send a nice hello. Thinking of them message. Go create some type of connection. Something that we do provide our students is a lead tracker where it'll actually change colors when it's time to check back in. You can also create notifications, depending on what platform you're using or what service you're using for your lead tracker based on the days so that doesn't fall behind. I want to get into the next activity to be focusing on. And again, all of these get to be going on throughout the day, throughout the weeks, because compound effect, it's all gonna come together. It's all going to continue to add up a little bit each day.

Growth, Growth, Growth

The next big thing that we get to do every single day is some type of growth. One of the biggest leverage points that most of us are going to have is growth. Growth is going to be the thing that if you had more growth, if you're in front of more people, as long as your sales process is down, as long as you're content marketing strategy is down, as long as you have your business foundations, growth is going to be that leverage point for you to help you move the needle forward. If you had more growth, if you had more people who knew about you and your offers, everything else would start to increase. That's what I mean by leverage points. At the end of the day, most of our goals are to impact as many people that we can and in order to do so, we must grow. Organically, most definitely. You can even start to grow paid if you want to. One, both, they all work. As long as we're starting to reach more people, more people will see your daily value that you're doing every single day. We just talked about that earlier in this podcast episode. More people will create transformation from your daily value. Now, how do we do this? How can we take growth action? What does this look like Melissa, tell me. So it doesn't need to be huge, but again, we do need to focus on it because the things that we focus on, the things that move the needle forward. The things we focus on are what will start to grow.

For example, I think I talked about this at the very beginning, was growing your email list. If you want to grow your email list, which everybody gets to do, because emails are the one thing that we actually do own. If Instagram were to shut down, if Facebook was to shut down, we don't own our followers, we would lose all of that information. You would lose all of those leads, so you'll get to be capturing email addresses. Email lists, again, a huge focus point for many of our clients in 2021. It's also something that we've asked them to add to their KPI tracking, their daily tracking. If you're looking at it every single day, and if it's not moving, then you know, you get to do something new. You get to share your freebie a few more times into a few different Facebook groups onto your platform or send a new freebie out to maybe a few leads who haven't opted into anything yet so that you can capture some more email addresses. At minimum, once per week, my clients are focusing on that email growth minimum and looking at the trend of email subscribers and taking action on it, adding that to one of their daily activities. Again, you can create more freebies, do more live trainings, have an opt-in and invite people into your Facebook group. Just adding more value everywhere. Getting into paid advertisement if you want to. Typically, I recommend getting into paid advertisement once you're at the 10K month mark, just so that you do have all your other processes in place and systems in place to handle additional lead generation. But, you also can add an intentional collaborations. Collaborating, getting on other people's podcasts, YouTube channels, Instagram lives, Facebook lives. Collaborating, It's going to help you get in front of more people. There's going to be people in someone else's audience that you collaborate with that may be a little more attractive to you and your style and your energy. That's okay. There are so many people in your audience who are going to be more attracted to the person you're collabing with and that's okay, you're getting in front of more people, you're helping more people and that's the goal, create a bigger impact.

So we went through a lot today. Tons of different things to be doing every single day in your business. Again. So important. Please take care of your clients. Please take care of your team. Please take care of yourself. Then, add value every single day. Add value every single day. I’m going to say it again, add value every single day. Also, sell every day. There's a ton of different ways you can sell. There are dozens and dozens of ways. It's not just you hopping on stories now and then. Then of course, growing, what can you do to continue to grow your community, your audience, and all of the things.

So let me know. We'd love to hear which of these you're going to add into your daily list that maybe you're not doing today. Go ahead and take a screenshot of this episode. Tag me on Instagram stories @themelissalin. Let me know which of these you're going to be focusing on this week. Any questions you might have, thoughts, Takeaways, all of the goodies that you want to send my way, I'm always going to be your biggest cheerleader. So you taking time out of your day to hang with me, truly means the world to me. I'll see you next time.
