My 2022 Goals
By: Melissa Lin
Welcome back to another episode of The Fierce Business Babe Podcast. Hello and happy 2022. Can you believe it? I need to say that again… 2022, it is here. Can you believe it? I seriously feel like last year just flew by, and I know sometimes you feel the same. I'm so excited to rock and roll this year. We have so many exciting things planned for the business, for the podcast, and for some things happening on the personal side of things in my life also, such as the new home my boyfriend and I are building, and just so many more things. More travel and more exciting adventures too, and I'm excited to bring you along with me as well.
So today we're going to be getting all into my actual goals for the year because this is something that I know my clients love hearing about and chatting with me about and my Instagram audience loves hearing about it as well. I popped in a questions box over my Instagram story the other day and this is a question that definitely came up more than once, so I wanted to create a podcast episode all about it so that I can share it with you over here on my podcast as well in case you were wanting to know what my goals were, how I set goals. that sort of thing. I also wanted to share how I check in with them because I know a lot of people can do them differently. It's not just at the very beginning of the year that I set goals. I personally like to set goals all throughout the year, so annually, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and it's also not always right in January. I technically set some of these goals back in December and started working towards them back in December, which is totally allowed, whatever is going to work best for you.
My team and I even have daily goals together. I also have personal daily goals that I work towards every single day as well. If you are a client of mine, you read Compound Effect, so you know the little things every single day do add up to that bigger thing. We're going to be having so much fun today. I'm so excited about recording this episode so that I can really share with you what some of those goals do look like for us as we're continuing to grow our business beyond seven figures so that you can see what that looks like. You can see how some of your goals can shift overtime or how our goals have shifted, because they most definitely have as we continue to grow.
So, again, the goals that I am going to be chatting about today I started back in December, so a lot of my 2022 planning happened last month, and I'm so excited to dive in. If you have some awesome goals for the year I would absolutely love to hear them, or maybe you're going to set them at the end of the episode once you brainstorm and do some journaling, I again would love to hear what they are. I would love to hear about them over on Instagram, so feel free pop on over there and send me a message– I don't bite. I'll send you a voice message back. I love sharing and chatting with you. Also. If there is anything I can do to support you, any resources, I can always send them your way to help you get closer to those goals faster. If you weren't aware, we do have tons of free resources for you. Of course, the podcast, this is episode 171, pretty sure we're going to do something for episode 200. It feels like it's right around the corner. So every week, new episodes, again, thank you for being here, I would not be recording these podcast episodes if it really weren't for you, for my amazing community, so thank you, thank you!
I’m so excited to get into all of these amazing topics we have set for 2022 and I can tell you've got some really, really exciting ones, so let’s dive in. Today I'm going to be getting all into the types of goals I like to set throughout the year, some of my own goals for 2022, how to check in and monitor the progress of those goals, a few tips and tricks for reaching your goals, and so much more.
Types of Goals to Set
The first thing I really want to dive into are the types of goals that I personally like to set each year. There are so many different types of goals that you can set for yourself. Something to keep in mind is that your goals get to support you. Your goals help you get to where you want to go, so they won't necessarily look like my goals, and that's okay. We may be at different stages in business or in our personal lives. Your goals get to support you and where you want to go. I want to share some of the goals that I like to set each year and the types of goals I like to set as well to give you some ideas and help you brainstorm some potential ideas for some of your own goals if you are about to set your goals for the year.
One of the big things I personally like is to take a look at my income goals yearly. We also dive into this quarterly, monthly, and weekly. My team and I are very, very heavy on numbers and data because I do truly believe they tell you a story on how things are going and give you a great picture of what's happening in the business and what could potentially be a gap and what you may want to tweak. So income goals are definitely a big one, right? So maybe ask yourself some of these questions: How much do I want to bring into my business for the year? How much do I want my investments to bring in? So yes, your goals can also be outside of your business. As far as some of your other income streams that you may have, what do some of those income numbers look like? Where do you want it to get to? So, if you have investments, property investments, other investments in the market, crypto, whatever that looks like, that definitely counts as well. So income goal is one big piece that I like to really look into and set for myself annually, quarterly, monthly, and weekly.
The second type of goal that I like to set are what I call my outcome goals. What is it that's going to help you get to some of your bigger goals? Is it a certain number of new clients in a program that's going to help you get to that income goal or impact goal? Is it the number of new people in your audience? The number of new podcast listeners, for example. If your goal is to impact X number of people, maybe that's going to come from your podcast. Maybe you want to set some goals about how many live training sessions that you want to do throughout the year to help you get to some of your other goals. So what are the outcome goals? What are the things that are going to help you get to that bigger goal? I’m going to chat a little bit about that once I share more of my actual goals for the next year.
I also like to create impact goals. I know I made a mention of that a little earlier, and these also don't necessarily have to do with your business, right? This could be the impact that you want to create, maybe in the town that you live in, or in some of the charities that you're apart of. There’s a lot that you get to set goals towards, and again, this gets to be businesses, this gets to be personal, whatever you really want to work towards. We all have different seasons in our lives. Maybe one year it's going to be a little heavier on goal setting in your business and other years maybe more your personal life. Again, it gets to be whatever is going to serve you best and get you to where you want to go.
My Goals for the New Year
So we've chatted about different types of goals that you can scent. I want to get into some of my goals and just give you some examples as well. So I made a mention of income goals. We do have an income goal for our business, and it's going to be a minimum of 30% increase from our last year. We also have a stretch goal. Our income goal is that we want to hit at least 30% more than we did last year and our stretch goal is 50% more than we made last year in 2021. We're always looking to grow.
I also have an impact goal. My personal impact goal is I want to impact 10,000 more entrepreneurs in this next year. What that can look like is a mixture of things, it could be inside my programs, bringing clients in and supporting them, helping them get the results they are looking for, a transformation inside of my courses. It could also be through my podcast, getting this podcast in front of more people so that it can help create that guidance and that impact that I want to really get out there with our weekly episodes. This could also be through my Facebook groups, press can help us create an impact because we do add value in all of our press pieces as well. There are lots of different ways that we can create that impact. I do have a goal, and we do have some smaller outcome goals to help us get to our big goal of helping and impacting 10,000 entrepreneurs minimum next year.
I also have some goals outside of my business. I will be continuing to support even more charities and be more involved in hands-on activities with a few of my local community and just more volunteer work, that's a big, big goal for me in the next year. On the personal life side one of my goals is adding in more play every single week. At the moment, I personally work roughly 20 hours a week, so I would like it to add an even more playful activities, such as skiing, getting back into my sailing club I'm a part of, my boyfriend and I both got our sailing certifications right before the pandemic, so that was a little ripe, it was maybe six months or so before the pandemic, so not right before it, but I guess it more sailing weather and sailing season here in Seattle. Thinking back, it feels so long ago, it was August 2019 then, so yeah, we got certified and really wanted to get out in the water, however our sailing club shut down because of the pandemic, so we're so excited to get back in. If you follow me over on social media you know I’ve been taking my lessons and getting out there on on the snow, more hiking here, there's some beautiful hikes, more overnight hikes and overnight stays I really want to get into and put more of my time and energy into, and of course more time with family. After not being able to travel and see family as much as I would have liked to during the pandemic, it's going to be an even bigger priority this coming year. So yes, again, set goals for yourself that serve you. These goals truly serve me and they also serve my business and I'm so excited to be working towards them.
Set goals for yourself and also put a plan together that's going to help get you there. Goals without a plan are just wishes, they're just dreams that are sitting on your shelf getting dust, right? It's like that book that you never open or that freebie that you download and never get through, it’s just sitting there collecting dust. I want you to be taking action and creating some movement. Create a plan and actually implement it, put that plan in motion. Start implementing, move the needle forward a tiny bit every single day, and again, compound effect, you'll be there before you know it. Baby steps. Start doing something, one thing everyday that can help move the needle forward.
Checking in with Your Goals
So we've got some goals, some amazing and exciting goals for the year. Definitely start putting yours together if you haven’t yet. I also wanted to chat about how to check in and how to monitor some of these goals that we set in place. So something that I've definitely learned over the years is that, yes, we get to decide on goals, and yes, we get to have them, make a plan, and start implementing them, but we also get to check in on them. We get to check in often and actually monitor how some of our goals are going, how close we are, what the gap is over the months of the year.
Something that I like to do is create some of those outcome goals. I've seen this terminology used in many different forms, mini goals, progress goals, smaller goals to help you get to that bigger goal. Sometimes these bigger goals, these big, ambitious, amazing goals, which are definitely all achievable, sometimes they can feel kind of far and kind of out of reach, especially if it's a year-long goal. This is why we want to create some smaller goals or mini goals that are going to help you get to that bigger goal before the end of the year, before the next 12 months or six months, whatever time length you want to give yourself to get to that goal. I like to be able to hit some smaller milestones as I'm working towards that bigger one. For example, let's say that you want to enroll maybe 12 people or 10 people into your group program in quarter one of the year, so January, February, March. What are some things that you can do to get there? What are some of the smaller checklist goals that you can work towards? So, for example, a few things you could do is you could talk about your offer on your platforms twice a week through some call to actions in your captions, and then also over on your Instagram stories, let’s even add an email list. There's so many things we can do, but that's something. If you check that off your list every single week you will be moving the needle forward a little bit every single day. Another thing you could do is work towards booking two sales calls per week if you do sales calls for your business. You could also host a live training once per week to add more value to your audience because we know that the more value you add, the more that your audience is going to really see that value in you and your offers and want to take that next step and work with you.
Set some smaller goals that are going to help you get closer to that bigger goal. I love adding these tasks inside of Asana for myself and my team also. We all do this together and my team helps me stay on track and I also help them stay on track to be checking in and monitoring our goals, so we do look at them often. We give ourselves dates for when we want things done by. So if you want to host a live training once per week, if that's going to help you closer to your goal, add it into your task list, make sure it's on your calendar. Check it off every week if that's going to help hold you accountable to it. Booking two sales calls per week. Open up your weekly goals list every week, I want to book two sales calls, amazing. Look at it every day, that way if you don't see that number moving you will be taking some action in order for it to move. What we focus on expands, what we focus on grows. Focus on some of these smaller goals for that overall goal to move forward. Again, use any kind of project management tool or even a notebook with little check marks, whatever works for you. So I do want you to ask yourself and think about, you know, what types of goals do you want to create? What goals would best serve you and your business? Where do you want to go in the next 12 months? So personally I wasn't going to wait until the new year to start working towards my goals. So when I set them back in December, I started working on them right away. So don't feel that you need to wait until the very end of the month or the first of February to start working on these new goals that you set for yourself. You get to start them whenever you want to and this is your permission slip to set goals whenever you want and to start working towards them as early as today. The sooner you start creating that momentum, the sooner you start to make some movements and work towards those goals. The sooner you start implementing your plan the sooner you're going to get there, the closer you will be to do it. So get going and let me know. I would love to hear all about your goals and really support you in getting there as well, I’ve got tons of resources.
