Today we have a very special guest, Taylor Lou Dixon, she is a lifestyle design coach, business mentor and an expert in personal development, lifestyle design, branding, marketing, business development, for millenial multi passionate women specifically!
We are going to be diving into some really exciting things today, we are going all into energy, your masculine and feminine energy, day to day, power, self discovery, radical responsibility, and so many big things!
Taylor Lou, started her entrepreneurial journey at 21 right out of college with a social media agency and found herself getting into lifestyle & business coaching and mentorship about 2 years ago. The transition coming from a social media agency was a very stark difference in terms of audience and target demographic. Taylor found herself lacking a real passion after 3 ½ years in her social media agency that specialized in restaurants, so she began to go down a journey a self development and creating a personal brand for herself. She started slowly letting go of social media clients as she started getting more lifestyle clients, getting active online, and gaining visibility. When she launched her first group program is when she finally made the official transition and let go of her last large social media client.
Can you give us a background surrounding masculine/feminine energy?
“ When I first heard it from my mentor, it was just one of those major lightbulb moments, where I realized that that is how I should be running my business and living my life. Put in very simple terms, when we are talking about masculine and feminine energy, we are not referring to gender. Every single person contains masculine& feminine energy and normally people have a more dominant side. When we talk about masculine, we’re talking about the logic, structure, the doing side of things, competition, action, directness. When we’re talking about feminine energy, this is more of your being or your receiving, energy that is rooted in intuition, collaboration, nurturing, creativity, and emotions. These two sides play a really big role in our lives.”
The sweet spot when it comes to business is balancing both of these energies when it comes to business.
This is becoming more of a topic that is coming into play although it has been around since the beginning of time. We talk about this a lot in the Chinese (yin & yang) and Yoga (shin & shiva) philosophy.
How do you start play that balancing act and how do I tap into that other side?
“There is nothing wrong with being dominant in a certain energy but it’s important to find balance in both. Some symptoms of being unbalanced in your masculine energy are stress, miscommunication, conflict with others, control issues, obsession with results, inability to adapt to change, if you resonate with that then you could be unbalanced in your masculine. Some symptoms of being unbalanced in your feminine are inaction, disorganization, lack of control over emotions, being taken advantage of, excessive fear of judgement, being caught in dream state.”
My formula that I use with my clients in balancing their energies is Fire + Flow = Sustainable Results.
It’s very normal to go through cycles of burnout. But it’s important to learn to always be self regulating. Observe how much time you’re spending in your masculine and feminine and make it a consistent practice in your lifestyle and learning what those signals are when you might be leaning too far on one side.
What are some things that they can do by themselves to seek balance?
“There are two ways that I recommend to incorporate more of the energy that you need more of. One is to bring on the specific activities of the energy that you need more of. A way that someone is unbalanced and needs more of their feminine, would be anything that’s soulful routines, rituals and getting in your body, like morning and evening routines, creating rituals, creating whitespace for creativity, dancing, intuitive movement, calling your friends and family during the day. Some other examples are expression, writing, making your environment very sensory stimulator, sometimes it’s very simple, it’s just finding those little things that help me be in my power as a woman and as a man, this applies to everybody. Some examples for those who apply as more feminine, would be creating daily action goals, using a time blocking system, using a daily planner, meal prepping, exercising, cleaning, anything of the ‘doing’ stuff.
We can either incorporate these very literal routines and rituals that you can do to incorporate into your daily life OR you can take an existing habit or piece of your lifestyle and put a masculine and feminine twist on it.
What I mean by this, let’s say it’s a nice day out and I’m using the Pomodoro Method to get a task done (masculine), so what I will do is get a picnic blanket, bring some crystals and sit outside doing my masculine activities but with a feminine twist.”
“Learning to balance these two energies are so important especially as business owners. Something I hear often is that business owners just need to hustle for the first few years until they get to a certain level of success and what’s so dangerous about that is that they are creating habits in their business that are going to be hard to break later and you’re going to continue to burn yourself out.”
Taylor’s life philosophy is: “I’m am going to always show up as my best self.”
By this she will always show up and be present as her best self but also practicing radical trust in the universe and trust her faith that things are happening for a very specific reason. She dedicates herself to not being so attached to the outcome and understanding that however the outcome happens is that this is how it’s supposed to be. There is a reason for everything. As long as you are showing up then you are upholding your side of the bargain.
How does all of this affect our business, if we don’t show up, if we don’t take radical responsibility, what starts to happen?
“I am a believer that everything that happens in your business is a reflection of what’s happening inside of you. So when we have situations where we have a lot of people who aren’t ready or willing to invest, there might be something to look at inside of ourselves, think “where am I living or showing up in scarcity?” I find that when things aren’t working in your life or your business, it’s time to seek out the lessons and start to seek out personal responsibility because if you believe in things like the law of attraction, everything attracts like energy. Everything that you’re attracting in the universe is for a reason and the reason is you. This is where the personal responsibility comes in and moving from victimhood feeling that everything is happening to me, how do you become the empowered creator of your life and deciding what you need to learn from this, a lot of this is practical and energetic. There is always a surface level, practical side we can take and there is always the deeper energetic work to improve the problem you’re having.”
How do you help your clients get clear what their gift is and decide what their business should be?
“Because of this digital frontier, I always say pretty much anything goes. If you have a cool idea and you can provide a proof of concept via market research or an example that is successful, you can make it work. I’ve worked with coaches, jewelry makers, designers, artists, actors, creatives. Often times when people come to me and they have no idea what kind of business they want to start, we can approach that in a few different ways. A great way to do that is to see a need that can be solved that they are able to provide. So the way to do this is to find where there is a need and apply yourself to solving that need for them. Where this can be problematic is if you are not working within your zone of genius. An activity that I do is you can actually draw a line on a sheet of paper and on one side you’ll write down what all of your interests are/the things you’re really passionate about and on the other side write down the things you are good at. In order to find your zone of genius you’re going to look at where your overlap is with where you could provide a real service with and what you’re passionate about. The problem for me during my first business was that I chose something that I wasn’t passionate about. Then also doing the market research to make sure that their idea is going to be something that people want. You have to prove your concept. “
What is their next component that they need starting their business from scratch?
“The market research is a great place to start and also figure out who it is you want to serve and take a little bit of messy massive action. Test it out, sell something small that will help you get one step closer to understanding if you’re onto something. It’s important to prove the concept.
I always say entrepreneurship is throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. At the end of the day taking that bit of messy action is how you’re going to grow.”
I think the real reason why people are drawn to entrepreneurship yes the freedom but more so the sense of exhilaration that you get from it. It fills you with this sense of purpose and aliveness that nothing else does. If that isn’t one of the big things you’re feeling then you may need to rethink what you’re doing. You’re doing it for that intrinsic feeling.
Taylor Lou’s Dreamcatcher Immersion:
This is a 6 month brand and business accelerator specifically for multi passionate millennial women. I lead people through my 4 part process. The first 8 weeks of this process is all doing a deep dive within, it’s all about the inner work, it’s what your version of aligned success looks like, what do you actually want from this business venture? How do you take radical responsibility? How do you reprogram your subconscious mind for success? A lot of these meta concepts affect the bottom line and if you haven’t worked with these then right before your launch it’ll come up again and you’re not going to feel fulfilled. This part of the process is called DreamMe.
The next part of the process is called DreamLife which is lifestyle design, which includes a lot of the masculine/feminine play and how to bring that into soulfulness, intuition, creativity. One of my strengths as a coach is matching the pragmatic with the airy fairy proof proof concepts, which is where you’ll get a good mix of both.
The next phase is DreamBrand, where we launch your brand. By the end of that they walk away with brand identity kit a 14 page brand identity kit, that is definitely in my zone of genius so I love working inside this phase.
The last 2 months is creating a lot of the business foundations with the intention of booking your first 3 clients or your first 3 sales and then we celebrate everything with a personal retreat.
The doors won’t open again for the Dreamcatcher program until early 2020.
But I do open the door periodically for DreamMe which would be an option for someone who wants to get a taste for what this is really all about, and you still get access to a lot of the elements at a more affordable option. But it opens frequently, so keep checking in to see!
