My Content Creation Hacks

By: Melissa Lin

Welcome back to another episode of The Fierce Business Babe Podcast. Today is an episode that I am excited to talk about because it’s an episode that I do so much of which relates to content creation. If you are over on my Instagram or any of my other platforms you know that I put out a lot of content. Something to keep in mind is I have been running my business since 2014, so I’ve had lots of content created over the years. I have lots of tips and tricks for you today. I don’t want you to even think about comparing yourself and your content to where I am, because I do have so much content. I wanted to create today's episode because I've definitely learned a lot of what to do, what not to do, and ways to create content quicker and with ease so that you can create more content without necessarily working as hard as you may be right now. So today I want to dive into my content creation hacks, so I'll be going over my actual content creation schedule, what that looks like with myself and my team, ways to create content with ease,  content ideas for you, and so, so much more.

Different Content for Different Purposes

Something that I do want to first share with you and something to keep in mind is that there are a lot of different types of content that you can create. Different content is better for different things. You really want to be intentional about the type of content you're creating, and I'm going to chat about a lot of that today and this episode. For example, reels have been a big piece of Instagram for the past 6-12 months at this point. This is very different than IGTVs, Instagram stories, or your captions. The type of content is different, performs differently, and also has different usage for different things. Reels are great for reach and for growth, however, in my experience, they are not always the best for converting and bringing your lead to that sale.

As we get into this episode, I want you to start to think about and ask yourself these questions. How am I attracting people? How am I nurturing people? How am I building relationships with them? In the past, what type of content that you’ve created has done each of those things? Which of your content attracts new people? Which of your content nurtures and builds relationships with them? Which type of content of yours converts your audience? Every audience is different, however, there definitely are trends that you'll see in those businesses. For example, for us, reels are attracting new people to our page. A lot of our emails are nurturing our audience, we add tons of value to our emails, and then also converting. We sell in our emails all month long. Our captions, again, very different, they’re nurturing and also converting. We do a lot of education in our captions and a lot of nurturing there. In our Instagram stories, that’s still content that you're creating, that is our conversion piece. We do a lot of converting through the Instagram stories and the content that we put out there. So again, which of your content is doing each of those things in your sales process? That may sway you to create various types of content over other types of content.

My Content Creation Schedule

So the first thing I want to get into is my content creation schedule. I really want to get into how we plan, how far in advance we plan, how I know what to post, what not to post, that type of thing. The first thing is how far in advance we plan. Typically my team and I, for higher-level topics, we’re usually 2 to 3 months out for the types of content we're going to create, the types of topics, maybe the themes of the topics of content we’re creating. I like to plan ahead, it makes things so much easier. Our launch calendar and sales calendar are always three months ahead, if not closer to five or six months ahead. We are always prepped because we have our email sequences ready to go, our captions, our podcast episodes, things like that that really match and align with whatever we're selling. However, the actual content, like captions for example, those are typically one to two weeks out. We don't have as far out of a gap there because I personally like to be flexible. I want to be able to pivot if I want to all of a sudden pivot and talk about something else or sell something else. My Instagram stories are always day of. The themes, the topics, those are typically two to three months out. The actual content is usually one to two weeks out, just so that I am a little ahead of it but can also be flexible and pivot if I want to.

A big thing that I like to do is bring my content into what's actually happening behind the scenes, whether it’s with my business or my personal life. I like to have that flexibility. If I'm traveling I want to be able to talk about my travel and weave it into my content, which is why I don't plan out the word by word caption months ahead of time. Again, it's different for everybody. You get to find a way that you like to work, create content, and schedule content out that feels good to you. It needs to be something that’s going to work for you because it needs to be something that you're actually going to stick to. For me one or two weeks out is perfect. I can stick to it easily. If I'm planning content four weeks out, word for word what I can be saying in different captions, it’s very likely I’m not going to stick to that because things change all of the time.

What I also do is I create themes in my content around what we're selling. For example, last month, for the month of May, we were selling spots in my Six-Figure Fierce Business Mastermind. This is my program where I help my clients scale to consistent $10K months. Most of my content in the month of May was focused on content that related to the program. This included how to expand your product suite, how to start to add more strategy into things, how to bring in a few more systems to make things easier for you, an automation into your business so things are a little more hands-off for you and you can get more time back while still making more. We also focused on bringing in consistent leads on autopilot, improving your sales process, and signing more clients. Those are some of the things that were talked about. If you scroll back to May over on my Instagram, you will see that type of content being shared because that's what we were selling. My captions always relate to whatever I'm selling because I don't want to confuse my audience. I want to be teaching about that same topic that I'm also wanting to fill some spots in.

For example, this month we’ve opened a few early bird spots in our higher level mastermind, Fiercely Scale. This is my program where I help my clients scale from six figures to multiple six figures. You’ll start to see that most of my Instagram content and email campaigns are going to focus around that content. That would look like scaling your current offers that you have, expanding your team, how to expand your team, how to lead your team and manage your team, and adding, building, and expanding your passive funnels. Upgrading your systems and automation. We want as much as possible to be hands off for you so that you're able to bring in clients consistently and sign new clients without having to go in and manually onboard and offboard clients. All that can be automated. We may also talk about evergreen containers and how to sell into evergreen containers and fill the spots consistently. Shifting into that CEO role, how your sales process can scale, and how to really scale it without you being in it 24/7. You'll start to see my topic, my themes, my content talk about those topics and themes.

Think about what it is you're going to be selling. If you sell multiple offers throughout the month, amazing, find a theme that would make sense for all of them so you can line things in together. You could also pick one of the offers and really focus on that content, that theme. Then you can always downsell or upsell into your other offer. For example, even though in May we were really pushing my Six Figure Mastermind to help women scale to $10K months in their businesses, we were still selling the Academy on the backend. We had our funnels going and we also talked about them socially on social media, on Instagram, and even here on the podcast. We let people know that even if you're not ready to hit 10K months, no worries, we can help you get your business started. Chat with us here, send us this message, or here is a link to apply to the Academy. So, you can still sell multiple offers. However, it does make it easier if you do focus on one and then let people know about the other offers. Keep your content simple by sticking to one theme if you can. It’s always worked so well for me, so I definitely recommend giving that a go.

Creating Content with Ease

I also wanted to share that content adds up. My experience, at least for my audience over the years, is that it's not just about one amazing piece of content that they'll see and that's the piece of content that somebody is going to come and buy. It adds up. Those that typically binge my content, they come and buy. I’ve warmed them up, I’ve nurtured them through my content. So, just know that your content does add up. Continue to put content out there. Don't give up after posting three posts and not getting a purchase from that. It's creating awareness around the topics, the themes, and also your programs and you as the coach or mentor or service provider that you are. Keep on pushing that content out. Find a way to have fun with it. This gets us into what I want to chat about next, which is ways to create content with ease and also with some play and have fun with it.

If you're not having fun along the way, things are going to be a struggle, I can promise you that. Find ways that really work for you. For example, I like to make notes of content ideas that pop up into my head via a voice note, that way I can come back and listen to it and I can feel the energy and the excitement that I have in my voice versus if I just typed it out. That's going to be a very different feeling, so I like to do things via voice notes, then I have it transcribed across the board because it’s very easy to do that with caption tools and other transcription tools. You are allowed to do things that feel good to you and also work for you. The way that I do things is not going to work for everybody. There are multiple ways to do things. Find a way that makes things easier for you.

Something that's really worked for us over the years is repurposing and reusing older content. This is your permission slip, you can also repurpose, reuse, and recycle old content and turn it into new content in a different form. I would say typically once you have about three months of content, that's when you can start to recycle. That’s usually when I recommend my clients start to recycle. If somebody sees it again for a second time, amazing, it's a reminder for them. It takes people multiple times before they take action, before they're ready to maybe go and implement the education that you're teaching them, or do that next step, whatever that is. For example, today's post on my Instagram is a post I’ve used before. I may tweak the first line or make a few tweaks throughout the actual piece for it to relate to whatever is happening behind the scenes of my life and my business. Not every post is like this, however, we do repurpose and reuse a lot of our content. There's no rule saying that you can’t, it’s your content.

Something I want you to think about, and I'm going to give you a way to create content with ease, is really ask yourself, what is the bigger content that I have, the macro content, that can be repurposed into smaller pieces of content or micro content? For example, a repurposing system that I do that I also teach my clients, is how can you take one piece of content and turn it into different forms of content? It's easier for you to get content out that way. Instead of creating thirty new pieces of content every month, you're really creating maybe five pieces of content and then chunking it up into thirty from there.

For example, we will take every podcast episode and create show notes, highlights, and a blog transcription. There’s tons of content right there from one podcast episode. Then we’ll take those show notes, those highlights, the blog, and turn it into multiple social media posts that are more so teaching posts. These may be two to three quotes or graphics. They can also turn into reels. We will also create social posts that are promoting the podcast for that episode because that’s still content. That is creating awareness around your podcast and the topics that are being taught. Then we’ll also do face to camera on my stories about that episode or about the teaching points of the episode later on. We will also email my list and we'll do a questions box for any questions people may have on my Instagram stories that week and relate it to that topic. Then I can take those questions and do reels answering them or answer them on stories and turn them into reels.

There's so much you can do with one big piece of content that you can trim into 15 or 20 other little pieces of content that you can use, whether it's next week, the week after, or next month. You're creating all of this content from one piece. I highly recommend giving it a try. It is just such an easy way for us to create tons of content. That’s one of the reasons that we’re able to push out so much content, because we repurpose. We take older forms of content and turn them into newer forms of content. Reels weren’t around two or three years ago, so now we can take all of our old content from captions and turn them into reels and create new forms of content to really support us with the algorithm. As you've probably heard, one of my big non-negotiables in my business is to add value. Every time I’m able to put out a piece of content, that’s me adding value. It’s one of my non-negotiables. I just love adding value. Find ways to create content that are going to really give you more time back and just feel easier. We also preschedule most of our content on platforms so that most of the time everything is hands off for us. I'm not having to remember all I need to go and post that today at this time. It's all prescheduled for us. I highly recommend that.

Content Creation Ideas

I want to give you a few content ideas in case you’re feeling stuck right now in terms of content. The first thing I want to say is, if you haven't grabbed my caption capsule, it is probably one of the best things that you can grab for $35. If you grab it from the link in my show notes you can use the discount code “podcast” for $5 off. We have hundreds of different headlines, tag lines, types of content, and dozens of call to actions for you to pull into your own content. My clients absolutely love it. It comes with all of my programs for my clients. I highly recommend giving it a go if you’re stuck with content. I want to give you a few ideas on top of that as well.

First, really think about where your ideal client is right now for whichever program you're pushing. Where is your ideal client right now? That point A, where are they at right now? Then think back to when you were in those same shoes or similar shoes. What were you going through? What were you afraid of? I’m currently selling Fiercely Scale, my higher-level Mastermind where I help clients scale from six figures to multiple six figures. I would pick myself up and put myself back in my shoes from a few years ago when I was going from six figures to multiple six figures. What was I going through? What were some of the fears coming up for me? What stories did I tell myself? What did I wish I could have known back then? A lot of that is what I now teach inside of Fiercely Scale, so I’ll start to create content around that as well. Those are some questions to ask yourself that you can journal through to give you some content ideas and new story posts or inspirational poster educational posts to get out there.

I'll give you another idea to create more content. Something that I love doing is helping my audience shift perspective and see things in a different way. I love doing this because it helps show me as the expert, because I’ve been doing this for years and years. I want to help others see things differently in ways that are really going to serve them. Your ideal clients want to grow with you. They want to learn from a mentor that’s going to challenge them as well. People change and shift and grow when they step out of their comfort zone, when they get uncomfortable. You shifting that perspective for them will also make you someone they remember because you're the one that helped them see things a little differently potentially.

Also, brainstorm some limiting beliefs that your clients may be having. Ask yourself, what are some of the mistakes that your ideal client is currently making that are obvious to you as a coach, as a service provider? What are some of those mistakes your ideal client is currently making that are obvious to you? You’re miles and miles ahead of your ideal client. You know what some of these mistakes are. Think back to the mistakes you made that you now would tell that younger version of yourself not to make. I'll give you a few examples. I see people in my audience and clients before they come to work with me not showing up on social media because they're afraid of judgment from others. I see clients not selling or talking about their offer because they're afraid of rejection. I will talk about that in my content. I will speak into that and add in some teaching points and some mindset shifts. Ask yourself, what are some of those limiting beliefs and blocks that your ideal client has right now? What’s holding them back from hopping into the program where you’ve got the solution for them? For me, for example, I'll go through clients not selling or talking about their offer as an example. I teach in my content that selling it is serving, so I'm helping my audience with those limiting beliefs through my content. Selling is serving. People need to hear about your offers in order for them to get that transformation, to move from point A to point B. This stuff can be put into your content and it’s really going to serve your audience and your ideal clients. So, what do you usually say about these limiting beliefs in your content? If it’s something that you don’t typically talk about in your content, I’m going to challenge you to do so today. This is just one of many, many, many different types of content that you can create. This can also be created in different forms of content, such as in reels, stories, captions, and podcast episodes.

To get back to that question at the beginning of this episode, which of your content does what for you and your audience? Is it attracting new people? Is it nurturing your current audience? Is it converting your current audience? Think about that and be intentional about the type of content that you are creating and have so much fun with all of the content that you're going to be creating.

We covered so much in this episode. We talked about my content creation schedule, ways to create content with ease, content ideas for you, my tips and tricks, and so much more and I cannot wait to share with you.
